Before the Separation, during the Age of Dreams, travel between the mortal realm and the Outer Planes was easy for everyone through hyperspace. Once Lucifer started attacking humanity, the gods had to take action against him. Maed came up with an idea and made a pact with the mortal realm. No outsider that is not native to the Material Plane may enter the mortal realm without being summoned, called, or traveling through an already established portal. No non-native outsider may enter the Conduit for any reason. Maed then solidified these laws by implimenting them into the core of the Conduit, effectively cutting himself off from his own planar creation. Then, with the help of Joram and Logos, they created the Inevitables, living automations that are the exception to the Pact. Because they follow no deity and hold no divine power, despite the fact that they are still outsiders, they are able to travel freely through the Conduit and planes. Their job was to uphold the laws of the universe as put in place by Joram, Logos, and Maed. Legends say that it is possible for Maed to break the pact, but no one is exactly sure how, or if it's even possible. Even still, it is thought that if the pact was ever broken then it would mean the destruction of the world. It is also thought that Maed's physical being is what keeps the pact and that if he were ever to be killed or if he disapeared without a suitable heir to the pact, the pact would fail.
Edicts of the Pact[]
- No outsider that is not native to the Prime Material Plane will set foot upon the plane without being called, summoned, or entering by means created by a mortal.
- No outsider that is not native to the Prime Material Plane will enter, view, or impose it's power on the Conduit.
- The Inevitables are the only exception to this as they are the defenders of law and enforcers of the Pact.
