Malzabor is one of the most powerful wizards in the world. His passion is spellcrafting whether it's in a study making new spells or in battle and applying metamagic on the fly.

Malzabor has returned to his position as tenured professor at the University of Mayrid, teaching spellcraft, magical theory, spell manipulation, and leads research into the Riftstorm.

History[]

Malzabor was born in Mayrid City into the upper class of Mayrid. He was destined to be a powerful wizard from the start. His childhood was consumed by magic studies. He recalls looking out his study window and watching other children play. He longed to join them, but he parents kept him inside to continue studying. Eventually, after showing extreme aptitude with the arcane, he was admitted into the University of Mayrid where he spent most of his time, for the first time, away from his books. By now, he had grown far ahead of the rest of his class, not only having studied all his life, but also having a natural talent for magic. By this time, he was arrogant, popular, and only wished to socialize. And Socialize he did. He was well known as a womanizer and quickly became the leader of the top tier social groups. Everyone loved him. Unfortunately for him, by the time he reached the end of school, the other students past him in his magical studies. He spent too much time socializing and partying that he was unable to keep up. When once he was ahead of the class, now he was behind.

By the beginning of his final year, he was so far behind that he could no longer maintain his studies and left the school. His family was disgraced and he was no longer accepted at home. He left Mayrid and traveled through Xepher. He moved from town to town, city to city, never staying in one place for long. He earned money by performing cheap tricks and low level spells for common people on the streets. After several years as a vagabond, he found himself in the most magnificent and wondrous city in the world, Vaerice. The life of the city was something he had never seen, but it was something he craved. The city was alive, day and night, there was always something to see, something to do. Airships and caravans moving in and out of the city at all times. Museums, bars, parties, adventure, and so much more. He was awe struck. A person of his talent level was nothing here. Only in Mayrid were his skills underappreciate like they now were in Vaerice. Instead of keeping him away, instead of reminding him of his home and his failure, it brought new life into his craft.

This new city captured him. He took up residence in the slums and got ahold of what seems like endless tombs dedicated to the arcane and reignited his studies. He spent time at Vaerice's colosseum, watching people battle for prowess. He starting watching mage duels and became fascinated with them. He studied concepts of spellcraft and modifying spells, especially on the fly. He quickly became an expert of metamagic and spell manipulation. He finally felt he was ready and stepped into a mage duel. He had prepared for this battle with a quick and simple spell that he had spent time modifying, tweaking, and improving. As he stood across from his opponent, he remembered all of the duals he had previously seen, with one of his favorite tactics being to be the second to cast, and defend against the initial bombardment, only to return ten fold. His duel was over in an instant, easily deflecting his opponent's spell, and send forth his own modified simplistic spell, impacting his opponent in the chest with the force energy of a mage that would be expected from a mage with far greater skill. As soon as he unleashed his magic, the dual was over. The audience was in awe of him, a change that he was well prepared for.

Over the next year Malzabor won duel after duel, each time showing his mastery of the arcane had increased since the last dual. No one could defeat him. He quickly became so renown that word reached his family in Mayrid. His mother showed up at his home in Vaerice and Malzabor was convinced by her to go back home to Vaerice. He proved his prowess at the University of Mayrid and was allowed to finish his studies, graduating from the University. He gained a name for himself as a strong duelist and even in Mayrid, never losing a duel, a boast that Malzabor can still use to this day. Through all of this, he never took his family name back.

At this point Malzabor was already middle aged and was invited to teach spell theory at the University of Mayrid. He accepted and spent twenty years teaching magical theory, spellcrafting, metamagic theory, and dueling concepts. He was a very popular professor, being extremely charismatic and understanding how young people wished to be treated. He often visited his old home of Vaerice to see his favorite Gems, spending a large amount of time with them. That is until one day he showed up and they were gone. It didn't take much effort to find out that they had left on orders of Vaerice herself to fight the newly arrived evil in Concora. He took a sabbatical from his teaching and left the school in order to go "rescue" he beloveds. He met up with them, became friends with their new companions, and helped stop the cult of Orcus. All in a days work. It was here that he met and befriended several other mages, as well as Ulin Battleman, who he grew to respect.

After the end of the Concora Crisis, he decided that it was a new age for him. He left his position at the University and helped rebuild Battledale with his new friends. He was granted a the position of High Magister and became the leader of its newly formed Wizard's Council. He spent a lot of time among the city and its citizens. He taught a small class of new students within the city, helped in every aspect that he could, and still, on occasion, went to Respen's new kingdom where he spent time with his beloved Gems of Vaerice.

On one of these excursions to Vaerice, he became so intoxicated that he lost a large amount of time. This perplexed him, as this had never happened before, at least not this badly. He was instantly sobered when he felt an immense burst of energy rush over him. Had he been more conscious, he theorized that the wave of energy may have harmed him, potentially even killed him, but since he was so disoriented, his connection to the Conduit was diminished. This wave was the Manaburst. When he discovered what happened, he began searching for those he left there, but he only found James and Ubek, no other member of the upper echelons were found. He left them both to do as they wished. He has not had contact with either of them since.

So Malzabor left the life he had, and returned to his former home, once again. He took up a position at the University of Mayrid, regaining his tenure, and now teaches magical theory, spellcraft, spell manipulation, and leads studies and research into the changes the Riftstorm have brought to magic, especially considering that they have affected him and his casting. He has not returned to Vaerice since the Manaburst, but still wonders what happened to him there to lose so much time.

Relationships[]

Malzabor maintains relationships with several professors at the University, as well as his long relationships he has had with both Eberk and Bane El of the Mayrid High Council. He has been asked to run for office multiple times, and he would likely be good at it, but he wishes to continue teaching and studying his art. While most would maintain that he has mastered it, and indeed he has, he still also believes there is more to learn. There is always more to learn, and because of this, his relationships with other mages are not his priority at the moment.
